AUSTIN, TX- Three critically-acclaimed alt-country/ Americana bands are slated to perform at the same Austin venue on the evening of July 3rd. The Monarch, located at 6406 North IH-35 (in the Lincoln Village shopping center), will host Shurman (www.myspace.com/shurman), Austin Collins (www.myspace.com/austincollins) and No Show Ponies (www.myspace.com/noshowponies), all talented musicians with notable accomplishments in the music industry.
Shurman:
"Very Good! Reminds me of old pre-Heartbreakers' stuff we used to play back in Florida."
-- Mike Campbell (long time Tom Petty guitarist)
Austin Collins:
“For the past three years Collins and his band mates have been effortlessly amplifying their fan base venue by venue…he has played gigs everywhere from the House of Blues, historic Gruene Hall, and Austin City Limits.” – Lone Star Music Magazine.
No Show Ponies:
Recently completed album is produced by Kevin Russell of The Gourds.
The hard-touring Los Angeles band Shurman has played more than 600 shows in the past three years, headlining clubs and opening for such diverse acts as Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley, Lucinda Williams, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Bob Schneider, the Drive-by Truckers, Los Lonely Boys, and Sammy Hagar. Their latest album, “Waiting for the Sunset,” is proof that they’ve forged a sound that refuses to be pigeonholed. Part of the reason Shurman rocks with more of a twang than other L.A. bands is lead singer Aaron Beavers’ Texas roots and drummer Damon Allen’s Georgia upbringing. “Shurman has done as much to revitalize the world of rock and roll as it has for music in general.”- L.A. Weekly. John Popper of Blues Traveler says, “This is an awesomely funky record – warm and soulful.”
Austin Collins’ sophomore album, “Roses are Black,” proves that an alt-country record can possess an abundance of both substance and style. Produced by critically-acclaimed Will Johnson, “Roses are Black” is not nearly as pessimistic as the title might suggest. “Collins (has made) the step from solid to stellar…the diversity that is on display is remarkable…look for Austin Collins to be the next Texas artist that can’t be held by the boundaries of his home state.” –Twangville.com.
No Show Ponies, a distinctive-sounding duo comprised of brothers Jeff and Ben Brown, has had an enormous amount of success in recent months. The group’s debut album is being produced by the renowned Kevin Russell of the Gourds. Their song, “A Run-in with a Faded Star,” was selected to be used by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Additionally, the duo had the honor of performing at the Texas State Capitol for the ‘Hope is Global” human rights rally to raise funds and create awareness for the crisis in Darfur, Sudan. Fans appreciate the diversity in the group’s arrangements, which can range from achingly gorgeous folk to brutal rock and roll.
