FUNDRAISER & CD RELEASE PARTY TO HELP FREE THE JENA SIX
Austin, TX – The release party for “Any Random Six,” the Jena 6 freedom compilation CD will be held January 21, 2008, at the Red Eye Fly located at 715 Red River in Austin. The compilation, assembled by the Media Arts & Literacy Institute, is 24 blazing tracks highlighting social political topics. Several of the musical genres covered are Rock, Reggae, Funk, Hip-Hop, Folk, Samba and Nu-Jazz Spoken Word.
Featured artists include DJ P.O.W., Lil Chris, Diasporic, Las Krudas, One Eyed Doll, Issence, KUKU, Sageburner and GreenTaRA.
M.A.L.I.’s Artists for Social Change is hosting this fundraiser in honor of those who have endured social mistreatment. Because it is M.A.L.I.’s mission to join communities through media to create change, we deem it important to speak against social injustice and keep these memories alive.
Proceeds from the CD will contribute to the Jena 6 defense fund and M.A.L.I after-school media programs. In addition to the Jena 6, the show is dedicated to the Dunbar Village victims, Daniel Rocha, Kevin Brown, Jesse Owens, James Byrd, Sophia King and all others who have had to face social inequality. The families of these individuals are invited to attend.
